I Can't Change Your Mind 2/28/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: quaff
Today was blah. Didn't do much all morning. Played some songs at Stupidfast speed in Strings. It's great. We start at Slow, go to Fast, and then there's Stupidfast that quite honestly sounds like crap, but it's a rush that's really fun to play. Booyah.
Had a Reach meeting today. My team won again. I think I cut in before the question was even asked several times and actually got it right, which kicked.
Science... God, I barely paid any attention in Science. Our labs were due and I handed mine in first, then we just went over the notes we made last week and the questions... had a bit of time for a lesson and then homework was assigned. I spent most of the time doodling and writing out song lyrics like I usually do when I'm bored out of my skull listening to Mr. Silnicki's drone. I sit right smack in the front, so blatantly not paying attention, but he never calls on me.
In Math I was finished the work. I'd done it all yesterday, much to my surprise. I know I did one question wrong, but we'll go over it tomorrow. I was really good at explaining these two particular questions... one about a set of intersecting lines and another about a pool table... Helped Amielia with her work. Apparently I explain things well, which is odd because I barely get it myself. Anyway, a bunch of us were done. Some were on the computers at the back and Rob, Holly, Dana and I played Cheat until the bell rang. They were going to teach me Euchre but we didn't really have enough time. It was fun. Holly won, on a cheat no less, because nobody noticed she only had one card left. I lost. Rob had taken the pile a bit earlier and called Cheat on me before I'd even put my cards down because he had all four nines. Heh. I suck at cards.
After school I had to go get a meningitis vaccination. Mom doesn't make us get the flu shot but all three of us had to get this. *sigh* I'm already over my yearly quota of injections. I got tetanus/diptheria last month. Argh. I fucking hate needles.
Next stop was the eye doctor, for a checkup. We got home and the first thing Mom said to Andrea and Daniel was, "Why can't you be more like your sister?" I have better than 20/20 vision. They don't. I got Dad's eyes. The need for glasses runs in Mom's side of the family -- Grandma and all of Mom's sisters have them -- but hardly anyone on Dad's side needs them. Heh.
Well, now I'm reading my friend Auren's story. It's called "Things Winged, Yet Weeping." Very good so far. You can read it here.
Posted another chapter of "A New Ego" yesterday. Only 2 new reviews on it so far, but they like it. I gotta get this thing rolling. It's been dragging on too long. Someone said that I write Tom exactly the way she imagines him in real life, which is cool. I made two people cry with "Shinigami's Judgement", hopefully I make people laugh with this one. I like to laugh a lot, but writing comedy is not one of my strong suits. In the words of Casey, "Oh Wheel."
Well, I'm outta here. Got some reading to do. :-) And new ER tonight. Sweet deal.

Needles are cool. If you get the jabs done privately sometimes you can get a lollipop, even if you are fifteen.
Does anyone really pay attention in Science?

I missed out on 3 immunization jabs because of that, yay!

Please Don't Drive Me Home 2/27/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: hiatus
Nothing much happening. Had band today.
During Strings Erika was talking to me and, as expected, I got bored. So what else does one do when they are bored? Make fun of Erika, of course. So I began to give her strange looks. You know, narrowed eyes, raised eyebrow, and the like.
Erika: What? What is it?
Me: You... You're one of them!
E: One of who?
Of course, I don't tell her, I merely continue to exclaim, "You're one of them! I knew it!" I turned to Katie and said, "Katie! Katie! It's Erika! She's one of them!" She didn't get it at first, but then I winked and she was like, "Ahh! One of them! Nooo!" The whole time, Erika's going, "What? One of who?!"
Eventually I couldn't help myself and just burst out laughing, and she's like, "Is this a joke?" And I say, laughing like an idiot the whole time, "Yes!"
Oh, good times, good times.
It was Lor's birthday today and she deliberately avoided me all day because she knew I'd sing to her. Can't blame her. Talked to her on MSN. She got Linkin Park's "Frat Party at the Pancake Festival" thing and says it's hella funny.
Speaking of Linkin Park, they're up for a bunch of Grammy's tonight. I know they've won one already, for "Crawling." Booyah baby.
Anyway, I'm out. I gotta type up the latest chapter of "A New Ego."

Why, the "Awww"-Matt-and-You People, of course.
Actually I'd like to think I'm in a class of my own.

I wish I were one of them. Instead, I'm one of me.
Wait a second... being one of me is good! Yeah!

WORD OF THE DAY: disputatious
Ahhh... nothing much happened today, other than the fact that I actually understood the work we did in math and finished my homework in class. Then I had Choir, which was fun. Taught Kim how to curse in Japanese. Always great stuff.
PG-13
Now we're getting somewhere - your actions are
now past pre-teen level, and you're beginning to
display some more mature content in your life
"Which Movie Classification Are You?"
Test created by Jamie - take it here.
I'm almost done another chapter of "A New Ego." It should be pretty good, I guess. I don't exactly know where the story's going, but it could be a whole good-triumps-over-evil, or, in this case, Tom-triumphs-over-Hendrick. Hm. After it's done, I shall get intense on my new book. Mwah hahaha...

WE WON! AGAIN! 2/24/2002

Ending a 50-year medal drought, we finally won gold in men's hockey. Gretzky was crying. Pat Quinn actually smiled. The crowd was singing "O Canada" before the buzzer went off.
We kick ass.

WORD OF THE DAY: millefleur
Went to Katie's basketball game in Trenton yesterday. They won 50-30. Score.
School yesterday was fine. We had a playing test in Strings. "Circle of Strings", oooooh... I can play the can-can. :-P
Went to Ace's with Katie at lunch. Had onion rings. They were reeeeeeeeallly good and reeeeally filling. I was full all day. Ahhhh...
While we were in Math, the Canada-Belarus game was on. We wanted to watch it, but we had a quiz... argh. So the guys set up a thing with the guys in the next room who were listening to the game on the radio, where they'd bang on the wall whenever a goal was scored. Unfortunately, they didn't work out any kind of system for us to know who scored, so it was like, "Yeah! We scored! Wait... maybe we didn't..." By the time everyone was done the quiz and they got a radio in, I had to leave for Katie's game, but it was still funny. It was 2-1 when I left and we listened on the way up, until the radio cut out in Trenton. You can't get any good stations at all out there.
It's 4-2 Russia right now. The Canada-US game is tomorrow.
Anyway, I'm gonna take off now.

Hm. I've gotten six new reviews on my last chapter of Shinigami's Judgement (posted now at fanfiction.net for your reading pleasure ^_^). Only one liked the ending. More than I thought would. I made someone cry. Again.
Right now it's 2-1 in the women's hockey final. I consider this revenge for Nagano. Canada is gonna kick USA butt. The refs are horrible though. Six, if not more, consecutive penalties have been called against Canada, and it's only the second period. I think USA have only had two. One of the refs is American. Hm.
I think I'm going to redo my diary.
BASTARDS! That's the seventh penalty against Canada! Tripping. Masaka!
*sigh* Later.

WORD OF THE DAY: demean
Today seemed like it was going to be pretty uneventful. It was semi-uneventful.
I'd just gotten into the Music room and was going to but rosin on my bow, but then I got called down to Mr. Gale's room. So did a bunch of other people. Usually when a bunch of people get called down, there's a connection between them and I always try to figure out what it is. Today, there wasn't. Katie, Éadaoin, Dana, Kim and two guys from my Strings class, Brian and Rob, were also called down, along with Dylan and Gemma, two grade nines. I could not for the life of me get a connection.
So after we were all there, Mr. Gale told us that we'd been picked to go on a trip to Trent University! It's in May (on school days, hehe) and we'd be staying in the dorms, eating at the cafeteria and, yes! attending classes. Well, they're kinda like mini-classes. I think we get to choose from a bunch. It's supposed to be really fun and, of course, it's a good experience. Looks good on a resume and a university application. :-)
So I got back to class and I find myself in the middle of Tuning Fest. We're starting to tune our own instruments. This scares me. I am horrible, horrible, horrible at recognizing when things are in tune. If something's terribly out of tune I'll know, but getting it in tune... *shakes head* Anyway, I tried my best and it turned out I wasn't that far off! Sweet deal. One string I knew was off but I couldn't turn the peg. It kept sticking. Grrr.
At lunch we had a Reach meeting; my team won, as usual.
Didn't do much in Math. I actually mostly understand what we're doing, which is insane. Pretty boring Science class. Other than that, nothing.
I might be going to Katie's basketball game tomorrow. We'd get out of school early. Probably going to the movies with Matt on Saturday. Wonder what Dad'll think... Heh.
Kumquat Smoothies all,

WRRRAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! 2/19/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: kindred
We had a Reach tournament today, this time at our school. Played five games this time. Here are the scores, and as always, my team is CHS. Go Clarke!
CHS vs. BHS
180 - 350
Did not like this game at all. That stupid annoying kid was there, answered almost everything. According to Mr. Saitz, we essentially only lost to the one guy, 'cause everyone else on their team answered like, nothing.
CHS vs. CDHS
300 - 200
This was a much better game. Very good. Last time we played them we lost by ten. Hot-looking kid was there. We still didn't ask his name, but Anita's even more sure it's Andy now 'cause after one question he got wrong she says she heard someone on his team go "Awww, Andy!"
CHS vs. CSS
390 - 150
This was a given. Courtice had a completely different team today for some strange reason, probably made up of willing participants this time. In any case, they did much better than their predecessors but still lack in the area of buzzing in.
CHS vs. BHS
290 - 270
First off, allow me to say, WE BEAT BOWMANVILLE! WE BEAT BOWMANVILLE! AHHHH HAHAHAHAAAA! Down with annoying kid! Wheeee!
Definitely a good game. Incredibly close.
CHS vs. CDHS
250 - 260
So we lost another one. But really, I don't mind Campbellford. Losing sucks, but CDHS is truly a worthy adversary. They're a good team, a little quiet, but good.
After the last tournament I think we were in third place. Depending on how CDHS did today, we might be in 2nd now. Next tournament is at CDHS, in the morning, which doesn't make sense seeing as they're the school that's furthest away. They're more in the boons than Clarke is. We might have to leave before school starts. Argh. And Vince didn't show today. He's getting his ass kicked if he doesn't have a good reason.
Backtrack to the morning... didn't do much. It was a good day. In French Mrs. Kearns from Guidance came and talked to us about course selections and we got our coursebooks. I think I'll be okay this year. The extra semester probably won't be necessary. I just need to choose whether to take the University level or University/College level Math, and find out whether or not I can get away with not taking Physics. If I can, then I can take music. Other than that, I know I'll take English, French, World History, Chemistry, Biology, and Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology. I've heard some girls in my Strings class say that it's a boring class but they don't seem like the type that are that interested in that kind of stuff, but I am. I think I'll be okay.
Then there's co-op to think about. I don't know what I want to do, if I want to do co-op at all. I think I can leave it until next year but if I do take it I either want to go to the ER or the local newspaper office. It's supposed to be a hands-on thing that'll help you decide whether or not you want to be in that field. I think the ER would be better because it's medicine I'm a little unsure of. It's kind of like my backup if writing doesn't work out. *shrug* I'm going to make my Guidance appointment tomorrow.
Strings today was good. We have a playing test on Friday which I'll be fine on. The course is really independent. We don't have a lot of lessons, really, but we'll play stuff by ourselves for a while and then Mr. Sharpe will conduct for the last part. Soon he's going to find some band music to play.
I joined the choir yesterday. It was interesting. I had fun. I sang with sopranos although Katie thinks I might be an alto, I dunno. I have to get used to singing nicely instead of like crap.
I have so many meetings all the time. It's almost not funny. Matt'll ask if I'll be around at lunch and 4 our of five days of the week it's going to be a no, I have a meeting. They don't always take up the whole lunch hour, but they usually leave me with about twenty minutes of lunch. I eat during the meetings. It's Reach on Mondays, Student Council on Tuesdays, Yearbook some Wednesdays, Reach again on Thursdays, and my Fridays are usually open. I don't usually have a lot after school, just band on Wednesdays and now Choir on Mondays. Wonder if Matt can keep up with me.
Hm, I just finished watching my Gundam Wing tape and it's 7:30. Just in time for Jeopardy. I consider shows like Jeopardy and SmartAsk like extra Reach practices.
Man, I'm lucky Mom has been driving me to the bus stop lately. This morning I barely had time to eat breakfast. (It didn't help that there was no oatmeal left. Grr.) I had to take a shower and then I spent almost the entire morning doing my hair. I pulled the top part back in a half-ponytail and braided it, and then I put the rest of my hair into different sized braids and twists. It's a style that'll be in my new book. I didn't even get to look at the newspaper until I got to the library at lunch. We left the house at five after eight.
Anyway, Jeopardy's on now, so I'll be seeing you later.
Kumquat Smoothies all,

Thanks A Lot, Daniel 2/17/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: jeunesse doreee
Have I mentioned that my brother's an idiot? Yes? I'll say it again. My brother's an idiot.
Today Mom was working 7-3, and Daniel and I decided to make a cake for her 'cause her birthday was on Friday. During the course of the day, Matt called me a couple of times, and one of those times was while I was working on the cake.
Daniel: Who're you talking to?
Me: Matt.
D: Matt who?
Me: Matt my boyfriend.
At which point Daniel burst into uncontrollable giggles.
Anyway, we made the cake... and then I discovered we had no icing sugar. *gasp!* So I walked halfway across town in the cold without my toque to the IGA to buy the icing sugar and my magazine, and my ears almost froze off. The things I do for you, Mom. Anyway, on the way back there was this dog crossing the lawns around my house, and he crossed the street and started following me. Of course, I didn't pet him or anything, but I said hello and the dog follows me right up to my front step, at which point I told him, "No, this isn't your house," and went inside. His owner came by later.
So after I warmed up a bit I set about making the icing for the cake. It probably would have helped if I knew how to make it. I had a really bad screw-up batch so I finally gave up and got the cookbook, which luckily had a simple recipe in it that didn't turn out that bad, other than that it was really runny and sloppy.
The entire escapade of icing the cake was relayed to Matt over the phone when he called me again. Daniel actually got a ladle out to put it on the cake. It looked like one of those snow Oreo thingies. I stuck it in the fridge for a long while.
The decorating of the cake was completed by Daniel and Andrea, who was feeling much better after sleeping all morning. Sprinkles and cherries, oh yeah. When Mom got home she tried the icing and said it wasn't bad, and in fact liked the cake a lot.
So here's where the idiocy comes in.
We're sitting around shortly before we eat the cake and Daniel says to Mom, "Jenna's boyfriend called three times today."
Mom: Her boyfriend?
D: Yeah, her boyfriend. Matt.
Mom: *looks at me* Boyfriend? Matt? Since when?
Me: Since Friday at the dance.
Mom: Uh-huh?
So that completely screwed over any ideas I had of when I was going to tell Mom. She does remember him from way back in grade one, and she also remembers that I hated him. Doesn't it always work out that way?
So yeah. The cake was good, anyway.
Kumquat Smoothies all,
~*Jenna D.*~
P.S. Right now, in men's hockey, Canada's leading Germany 3-0. End of the second. Booyah. Although it doesn't atone for what happened with the Swedes.

Er, I'm getting ahead of myself.

But damn, little brothers are irritating as hell.

Booyah for my future country!
Er, I'm getting ahead of myself.
I'm sure your mom finding out like that isn't all that bad.
It's a story for the scrapbooks even.
But damn, little brothers are irritating as hell.
*kicks Daniel*
I want cake now.
*drools*

It's Not Easy Being Green... 2/16/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: verbicide
Green:
You are a very calm and contemplative person. Others are drawn to your peaceful, nurturing nature.
Find out your color at Stvlive.com!
Yup. Grrrrreen
Ah, well, seeing as it's only 2:50 PM right now, nothing much has happened. I spend my Saturday mornings reading the paper, lying in bed, watching cartoons (Ryo Akiyama! AHHH!!!), and taking long showers until the water runs cold, not necessarily in that order. I fit in eating and talking to my family somwhere between all that.
I haven't watched Gundam Wing yet today. Hm. I've probably seen it six times all ready, but there are still some episodes I've missed that I want to see. Specifically the one where that bastard Tsuberov dies. Asshole.
Ah... in other news, you are all a bunch of saps. The number of "awwws" I've heard in the past twenty-four hours is enough to last me a lifetime. And I thought I was bad! I talked to Julie last night and she was all "awww"-ing and everything.
But ya know I love ya for it. :-)
Later.
Kumquat Smoothies all,

Dude, Caitlin's Cheating On You 2/15/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: transpire
My Mormon name is Jae' Vonna Sunday's Hossana!
What's yours?
Sooo... today was the dance.
Wow. Man.
93 people bought tickets. Really. That was it. I don't even think that many went. Not a lot of my friends went. Katie, Heather, Anita, Kim, Rachel P., Chantell, Ashley and Matt B. went. That was about it. They played a lot of rap and R&B, which I don't like, but I grinned and beared it. Danced a lot. Got tired. Had a pretty good time. Tried to teach Anita how to dance, with minimal success. Got a boyfriend.
Yes, that last sentence did get typed by my own hands. Matt & I hooked up. It sounds weird to call him my boyfriend. Matt's funny. He's kinda dorky-cute and it's hella funny to watch him dance. He called me after school and we talked for like, an hour and a half. Me. On the phone. It's nutso.
I went to kindergarten with this guy. Then he transferred to a different school in grade 4 so it was kind of a shock to see him in my class earlier this year. I wish I could find my old class pictures.
Anyway, we finished the literacy test this morning. Finally! That waste of my time. Worthless piece of crap on a stick. I finished each book at least twenty-five minutes before the time was up and used that time to work on my new book. I like this one. It's going to be so much better than 7th D. I think I've said that before. Oh well. Anyway, nobody's going to see a word of it until I'm most of the way through. I've told some people about it, and they just got that smile-and-nod look on their faces that people usually get when I talk about my writing. *shrug*
In other news, Sale and Pelletier are sharing the gold medal with Russia, and Canada won a bronze in cross-country skiing, our first medal ever in that. Sweet deal.
Anyhoo, Andrea's sick. She has the flu, and Mom says she shouldn't have gone to school today. Andrea's allergic to the flu vaccine but she has a compromised immune system because of her arthritis and the medications she's on, so that means when she gets the flu, she really gets the flu. Happy birthday Mom. We were going to take her out but Andrea was too sick to go anywhere. Daniel and I are going to make Mom a cake or something tomorrow. Andrea's not going anywhere near the kitchen or we'll all get sick. Mom said that on her day off next week she's going to let me take the morning off and we'll go out for lunch. Mental health day. I can't miss the afternoon because I have Math and Science, but I can miss French and Strings in the morning. It's easy to catch up with them.
Well. I'm outta here. Nothing else to say.

Eye Dunt Nede Noe Teste Two Tel Mi I's Liter It 2/14/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: scintillate
Actually, the full title should be "Eye Dunt Nede Noe Damm Teste Two Tel Mi Eye's Litter It" but you know how it works. It's Lor's nickname on MSN right now.
As you grade 10 students in Ontario know, we took the first half of the literacy test today! Yay! Feel the sarcasm!
The whole damn thing was crap. Crap on a stick. Crap on a mother fucking stick. It was so easy it just wasn't funny at all. It's exactly like what they gave us in that stupid preparation last semester. It's just too fucking easy. I finished at least ten minutes early for the first booklet and twenty minutes early for the second book. Sheesh. And we have to do it again tomorrow. I could've spent that time learning new verbs in French or playing my violin in Strings... *sigh* Waste of time.
In other news, Keane's transferring. Not out of class, out of Clarke. He's going to the Catholic high school in Bowmanville because his mother wants him to. Tomorrow could be his last day. I messed up his hair and told him I'd miss him. He's not sure if it'll be for the rest of high school, but at least the rest of the year. I hope he comes back. I mean, who else would we poke, laugh with, and everything else? Dammit. Why is everything going downhill?
The dance is going to blow. As of today there are 63 people going. We're selling tickets again tomorrow, and hopefully we'll get a bunch more people. It's too late to cancel it, so if we have 63, we have 63.
I think Matt B. likes me. I dunno. He's been talking to me an awful lot lately and even passing me notes in class. He's not a bad guy, really. I dunno. He scares Julie. LOL, Kim and I were bugging him about that today.
Daniel had a hockey game and they won, 10-1. It was against Katie's brother's team. Guess who scored two goals and got two assists? Oh yeah. It was my Daniel! He made this space shuttle thing at school and took it home. I can barely fit inside it. Daniel was curled up into a little ball, and they had to read a script while in their spaceship.
Fuck on a stick. There's no ER tonight because of the Olympics. You'd think I'd be able to get some ER with this literacy test going on, but noooo. At least Catriona Lemay Doane won a gold medal. I like her smile.
Of course I'm pissed about Salé and Pelletier's results. You know, the Canadian pair who everyone thinks should've gotten gold, but got silver instead. I know there are people who think that the Russians were better, but Jamie and David were just beautiful. And it helps that they're a couple too, :-) Last I heard they're asking for a shared gold medal. Apparently the Russians have said something, but I haven't heard it yet.
Bastardous bastards. Heh, I just like saying that. Bastard. Funfun.
Lor's mom was one of the parent volunteers at the test today and she asked me if I'd written any bestselling novels lately. I told her I'm working on one. Actually, I am. I have a new book-length project I've started that will be *much* better than 7th D. was. I'm not going to abandon Tyler Scott, Sara Greenburg and everyone else, I'm just putting them aside to focus on Ana Lumin, Doug Elmer, and their group right now. It's called Aminor. Got the idea for the story from a hair wrap. Don't ask. I was searching all over the place for a scene that I could swear I wrote down. I checked my old notebook, my current notebook, the hard drive on this computer, the one on the upstairs computer, my disk, my drawers... and I can't find it! I swear I wrote it... maybe I just played it out a little too vividly in my head...
Well, that's about it for now. Later.
Kumquat Smoothies all,

Not Another One.... 2/14/2002
Survey from Xiaoyu. I think I spelled that right...
Part 1 - At any point in 2001, did you:
1: go to a party? Yup. A couple.
2. Try something new? Yes.
3. Have something change your life? Umm... not personally.
4. Kiss someone? Outside the obligitory kisses I give my mother, no.
5. Tell your family and friends you love them? Of course.
6. Buy something extravagant? Heck no. Can't afford it.
7. Do something nice for you? Yes. I got away to camp for a week. Although my parents paid for it, it was my gain. I loved it.
8. Do something terribly wrong? Wouldn't you like to know...
9. Move? Yes.
10. Go to a concert? Yes, actually. Well, it was more of a festival-type thing, Snow Jam. I saw Simple Plan, Sum41, Gob, and the Mudmen... those last guys are weird.
Part 2 - Best of the Year
1. Party: That one at Heather's, where we went out really late and got pizza, and spied on the people in Anita's basement, and drank too much pop. Haha...
2. Show: Umm... I'm not going with on TV. The Lion King. If you haven't seen it, it's amazing.
3. CD: Oooh, this is a toughie... Either Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory" or The Tea Party's "The Interzone Mantras." It's really close. I didn't really buy a lot of CDs.
4. Movie: I didn't see a lot of movies either... Harry Potter, Ocean's Eleven... they're the only ones I can remember.
5. Song: Uhh... Too many to name. Either that or I can't remember the year. This is what I get for writing this in February.
6. Experience: Going to Snow Jam.
7. Concert: Seeing as I only went to one, Snow Jam.
8. Book: Man... I spent the whole summer reading. "The Lady In The Tower," "Sarum," shitloads more... "Whisperings of Magic" was beautiful. Karleen Bradford, she's great. Read "Dragonfire" first though. "Tales From Beneath Your Mom" was amazing, LOL.
9. Month: Mid August to around the end of September just kicked ass.
10. Day: The day we got back from the canoe trip at camp and I actually got to shower for the first time in four days.
Part 3 - Worst of the Year
1. Party: I don't go to sucky parties.
2. Show: None.
3. CD: Um... my sister got Uncle Kracker for Christmas. I don't have to even look at that to know it blows.
4. Movie: Not Another Teen Movie. I can't believe I saw that...
5. Song: Too many to list.
6. Experience: Can't think of anything.
7. Concert: N/A
8. Book: Um... Can't say I read a bad book last year.
9. Month: Can't think of anything.
10. Day: Ditto.
Part 4 - Quiz
1. What were you doing when you heard the WTC had been attacked? Sitting in Music, playing my clarinet. They made an announcement that something had happened and it all exploded from there.
2. Name one thing that happened (in US or World News) before 9/11: Several large drug busts were made.
3. Name a celebrity who passed away this year (besides George Harrison): Fuck, can't remember. Damn survey stole my answer.
4. What country entered the New Year first? Somewhere in Oceania....
Part 5 - Hopes for 2002
1. Predict something that you think will happen in 2002: The Canadian dollar will fall. More. Actually, according to Jeff, he heard this psychic say that the loonie should go up. Maybe close to seventy cents US! Wow!
2. What do you hope changes about your country? We become #1 again. And the health care system gets better. Ditto for education.
3. What do you hope for yourself? Get something published.
4. What do you hope for your family? That we get our own house and perhaps a car that's not falling apart.
5. What do you hope for your best friend? That she will not be close to failing stuff.
6. What do you hope for the rest of your friends? That they're happy and the rest.
7. Do think any amazing medical advances will be made? Not by me...
8. What is your biggest wish for 2002? That everyone will stop acting like children.
Survey from Xiaoyu. I think I spelled that right...

Kambooka? Kambooka. Oh Yes. Kambooka. 2/10/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: defile
Yes, Kambooka. Death to the Kaluhas, except Charlotte. Ramallas suck, except Erin and Christine. Kambooka is the official sponsor of Adanac.
Translation: I just got back from camp. The theme was Survivor. I'm not joking. You can probably guess that Kambooka, Kaluha, Ramalla and Adanac were the tribes.
So, with the corner of Edelweiss, one of the cabins at Camp Adelaide, decked out in Kambooka green, my tribemates and I proceeded to make complete asses of ourselves on more than one occasion and slide into third place.
The weekend got off to a semi-bad start. Friday came and I got the results of that grade 9 standardized math test back. I actually scored particularly well, with high Level 3's (Level 3, in the Ontario Method of Grading While Messing Up the Education System and Confusing the Heck Out Of Everyone, Especially Parents, and Causing Students Much Stress, at the Same Time No Less, is the provincial standard, or 70-79%), and a Level 4 (Which, in the OMGWMUESCHOOEEPCSMSSTNL is 80%+) under Knowledge and Understanding. My overall was a high Level 3, which is good.
Anyway, I got home from school and had to pack for camp straight away, 'cause the bus left at five. This I did, and then to our horror, Mom discovered the car wouldn't start. At ten to five. Dammit. We called Heather, and her mom drove us up to the arena. Heather, I heart you and your mom.
We took a minibus, 'cause there was only seven of us: Dana, Erin, Christine, Amanda, Charlotte, Lisa and myself. Erin and Christine are identical twins, but we could tell them apart 'cause Erin has longer hair and wore it down all weekend, and Christine wore hers up. We stopped in town for pizza, 'cause we were behind schedule and slightly lost and very hungry, and then we got lost some more, driving past the entrance of the camp to a complete other town before realizing that, yes, Dana was right, and that was it an hour back. We arrived after nine.
We managed to find places to sleep. Showing up second last (before Erin W., Kim [not my Kim, the crazy one], and Mary) meant there wasn't much of a way we could stick together. I ended up on the top bunk, second bed, room six. Charlotte slept on the bottom, Christine on the bottom of the other bed, Kim on the top of that one. Erin W. dragged in another mattress and she and Mary slept on the floor, 'cause they didn't want to share a room with the weirdoes from the other districts. Frankly I don't blame them, considering their options.
After that we were informed of our tribes, and yes, we were split up. Sort of. Dana, Amanda and I were in Kambooka, Christine in Ramalla (all by herself until Erin W. showed up), Charlotte in Kaluha (really by herself), and Erin and Lisa were in Adanac.
In case anyone is wondering, we had no say in the names. We arrived too late to be worthy. Also, in case anyone didn't notice, Adanac is Canada spelled backwards. Yeah.
Our first challenge was to make our 'tribal accesories', you could call them. Bandannas in our tribe colour (Kambooka green, Adanac blue, Kaluha red, and Ramalla yellow) that had to be worn at all times, consequences pending. Tribe banner, made with finger paint. Mask, made out of construction paper, feathers, and the corner of a box. Jewellery, made of gimp, yarn and beads. We had to make a tribe necklace, to be worn by the person we voted for, on virtues like sportsman-er, sportswomanship, teamwork, etc., after every challenge.
We voted for the first challenge on Saturday morning, after we'd stayed up until 1 A.M. Friday night and then had breakfast. And who won for Kambooka? Oh yeah, yours truly.
Our next challenge was *gasp!* outside. Each tribe was taken to a different, isolated area of the camp and told that we had just been stranded in the Himalayas, and the items in this bag were all we had, and we had to do the following things, written on an orange card. We had a sheet of plastic, five matches wrapped in tinfoil, a notepad, pencil and marker, a bag of gorp, a pot, some string, and a litre of water. We had to make a shelter for all seven of us, make a fire that could boil the water, make a snow sculpture, and then, once the fire was going, someone had to go back and get 'help,' then come back a different route.
Oh. My. God. It was such a hoot. We threw the plastic over a tree branch as a temporary shelter, then set to work finding wood and birch bark for the fire. A 'sculpture' of snowballs was made near the road, and some snow angels. Then, we set to work lighting the fire.
The matches, luckily, could be struck anywhere. We used our zippers. It went painstakingly slow. Everytime the paper caught, the flame would go out before the birch bark started burning. Eventually we got something going, after using up almost all our matches, burning the entire memo pad, and the instruction card. We got it going well, Amanda took off, and returned with one of the leaders and hot chocolate mix. We made the hot chocolate, and it wasn't half bad actually. Our shelter left little to be desired, so Vicki and Hawley dug out the side of a snowbank and hung the plastic over it.
We returned ten minutes before the three o'clock deadline, and sat around for fifteen before the next tribe showed up. Kaluha, who had left first, came back last. Haha. We left last. Yet, we did not get the idol, known as the Big Kahuna. Apparently all the tribes did equally well. Damn them. We chose Vicki in the tribal council for her exstensive knowledge of winter survival skills.
Another one of our challenges involved eating unknown foods. They were covered in chocolate. We had to eat it completely and extra points were given for guessing that the hell we just ate.
I got an onion.
I hate onions.
I ate it all. Then I found out it was an onion.
We didn't win that one either.
Amanda won the vote, 'cause she got the sardine one. Yes. Sardine.
We also had to do the old build-a-raft-and-see-how-much-it'll-hold-before-it-sinks thing. In addition, we had to dress 'Ranger Barbie' with some cloth we were given and we gained points for knots and stuff.
Needless to say, by that time we were sick and tired of not getting any recognition for our acheivements, so we decided to screw it and just make it as insane as possible. Within minutes, our doll was void of hair, her right leg and arm were switched, and the cloth was abandoned in favour of wrapping the doll in masking tape. We taped her in such a way that it looked like she was doing a pole dance with the flagpole, and added an anchor made of masking tape, a fishing rod, a tent and a bedroll. Oh yeah. It was great fun making her, and we didn't care that the thing didn't float worth shit. We voted Dana in for that one, because it was her idea to make Barbie go against the rules.
After dinner (lasagne), there was dancing and singing. Really. We had to make up a parody of a song that best described our tribe, and make a tribal dance. This wasn't a 'challenge'. I wrote a song to the tune of "On Top Of Spaghetti" and made up a dance based on this happy dance I do from time to time. We went last, and by far we got the most applause.
For one, I sang the song myself. The other six stood behind me and hummed. I sucked. My voice cracked. Sitting at the table with my tribe I was fine, but in front of an audience... *sigh* I'll get used to it. Anyway, we did our dance in such a formation that I would be standing in front of the Kahuna at the end, at which point all hell broke loose.
Sort of.
With a cry of "KAHUNA!!!!!!", I snatched up the idol and we took off downstairs into the cabin's basement. The sound of applause and laughter followed us, but the rest of the tribes didn't. So we went back up, greeted by an encore of clapping. Oh yeah. Who kicks? Kambooka kicks.
This morning (Sunday) we were allowed to sleep in until ten, when we had Guide's Own, a really boring thing in which we reflect on the event. After that, everyone packed up their stuff, and ate a brunch of bagels, muffins, juice, milk and leftovers. Remembering the trip up to camp, we were not about to be caught unprepared if we got lost. We packed a bag of bagels, muffins, baby carrots, and some pop.
Second last to arrive, second last to leave. The bus showed up a little afternoon and we said our goodbyes. The bus ride home was significantly quieter than the ride up, and we didn't get lost. Got back a little after 2:30, and I jumped in the shower as soon as I got home. Ahh.
Now it's about 8:39 PM and I'm going to end this entry.

A Thought. 2/7/2002
No real proper entry today... nothing much has happened. I took my violin home today, to practice. The cat doesn't like it.
I just remembered something Mom told me a few weeks ago. Her friend Jill's father had died and Mom went to the funeral, where she talked to some relatives of Jill and her husband Kevin. She talked to someone on her Kevin's side, whose mother had been in the hospital in a coma around the beginning of September.
Kevin's brother had been staying in the hospital with his mother for pretty much the entire week she was asleep. Of course, they were getting worried, but one morning, she woke up, and the first thing she said was, "There are so many souls waiting to get in... I don't think they have room for me right now."
It was the morning of the eleventh. They hadn't heard about any of the attacks yet.
I just remembered that right now for some reason. But anyway, I gotta go, Andrea and I are going to see A Walk To Remember.
KS all,

WORD OF THE DAY: eccentric. Dammit, another word I know. CUT IT OUT, M-W!!!!!!
Aaaaanyway... title has nothing to do with anything but an inside joke involving Anita, a Reach meeting, Hitler and and John Diefenbaker. Don't ask.
Anyway, Mom got a call from my aunt Joyce and the bad news is that it turns out one of her cousins is in a coma following a car accident near Kemptville. The good news is that my cousin, Vicki, is pregnant. The baby's due August 15.
New semester started today. French, Strings, Science, Math. I didn't get the cello in strings, didn't get the viola either. After the draw to find out who'd get them, I ended up not, and I'm stuck with the violin. It's not that bad, but I really wanted something else. *sigh*
Anyway, gotta go. Later.

What You Say?! 2/3/2002
WORD OF THE DAY: conquian
Went to Dad's on Friday with Lor and Andrea. I saw Julie's ring. It's pretty. We had steak for dinner and then we stayed up watching movies on TV; we watched Girl, Interrupted and My Girl. Next morning we went to brunch at this really cool place that I can't remember the name of. I had French toast and sausages that were really good and a strawberry banana smoothie.
We went to the Royal Ontario Museum too. Saw the "Great Asian Dinosaurs" exhibit and then went and looked at the European rooms, it was something about the evolution of style. I loved that. Then Dad and I looked at the arms and armour while Julie, Andrea and Laura looked at Egyptian stuff. There were swords and crossbows and helmets and hockey gear. No joke. Hockey gear. "Modern armour for sport" they called it. Heh.
Anyway, yeah. We went to Daniel's hockey game, they lost, but Daniel got an assist which was good.
The landlord is doing something downstairs and I have no idea what, but it was making a substantsial (sp?) amount of noise up until a few minutes ago. Some kind of construction work. Maybe he's insulating the ceiling properly so we won't have to hear their TV. If it's something with plumbing that would explain why the kitchen tap coughs and sputters before finally running somewhat normally.
Right now I'm bored. I gotta get off soon and take a shower. That tap had better not be spluttering. So yeah. later.

Once, in the middle of the night, I heard knocking from the ceiling.
Each time I opened my eyes, it went quiet.
Then when I shut 'em the knocking began.
It kinda freaked me out.

So yeah. later.
Kumquat Smoothies all,

Once, in the middle of the night, I heard knocking from the ceiling.
Each time I opened my eyes, it went quiet.
Then when I shut 'em the knocking began.
It kinda freaked me out.
Um, yeah.
